Rafizi dismisses claims Izzah to join Bersama after PKR election machinery reshuffle

FORMER economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has denied rumours that Nurul Izzah Anwar is planning to leave PKR to join Parti Bersama Malaysia(Bersama), amid speculation triggered by a recent reshuffle involving PKR’s election machinery.

The former Pandan Member of Parliament dismissed the claims as unfounded gossip circulating online.

“That claim about Nurul Izzah joining BERSAMA is merely an empty rumour,” Berita Harian reported Rafizi saying in a brief post on X.

“She will not join Bersama.”

The speculation emerged after Nurul Izzah was replaced as PKR election director, with the role now jointly held by PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The restructuring was approved during a PKR Political Bureau meeting earlier this week as part of what party leaders described as a broader strategic realignment aimed at strengthening preparations for upcoming elections.

The rumours intensified after an X user believed to be affiliated with Bersama publicly urged Rafizi not to accept any application from Nurul Izzah to join the party.

However, PKR leaders have maintained that Nurul Izzah will continue to play an important role within the party despite the leadership changes.

According to party sources, the former Permatang Pauh MP will now focus on strengthening PKR’s election machinery development, organisational capabilities and internal operational coordination.

The latest reshuffle is viewed as part of PKR’s efforts to streamline its electoral structure and improve campaign readiness ahead of future national polls.

Earlier reports stated that Amirudin and Saifuddin were appointed to jointly oversee PKR’s election strategy in order to reinforce coordination and operational efficiency within the party’s campaign apparatus.

Nurul Izzah remains one of PKR’s most prominent figures and continues to hold the position of deputy president within the party founded by her father, Anwar Ibrahim. - May 28, 2026
