What is the fate of PKR, the party whose roadmap from its inception was to reform the political system and to end the rule of BN, now that there is a new Deputy President who is also the eldest offspring of the President of the party?
Is it going to fall apart, or it has already fallen apart due to it’s inability to carry out any of the promised reforms almost 2.5 years into governing the country after years of playing 2nd fiddle and opposing the government of the day then?
Today, many of those who supported PKR have gone from supporting the Pakatan coalition to completely rejecting it based on what has transpired.
Both the challenger, now the duly elected Deputy President and the then incumbent have gone on record during their campaign in the run up to the party elections stressed the need to bring the party who have deviated and regressed away from its roadmap, to its original and founding ideals.
The incumbent who lost in defending his position claimed that instead of the members and the leadership coming closer to achieve the goals of the party, things went in the opposite direction resulting in a greater division of the party and the society after it became the government.
The incumbent effectively summed up the actions of the party president on his campaign trail to convince members of the party to vote him back in as the Deputy President – the President of PKR did not abide by his promises to the nation.
Rafizi probably were too naïve, overly self-absorbed and a fool to believe that reforms will come naturally when the party is in power.
Not even halfway through its governance, the masks have fallen off.
The laws that they used to criticise are the very ones that they are now using on others.
It is not that Rafizi suddenly developed a conscience.
Instead of getting blamed for the inevitable beating that PKR will suffer from the increasingly disillusioned voters in the next GE, Rafizi’s failure in defending his position gave him an opportunity to exclude himself from the blame which would be heaped upon the leadership should the party faltered badly in the next GE for he can later claim that he always opposed the party’s strategies.
Those who voted for the new Deputy President are probably still living in a bubble convincing and believing that in voting for the new Deputy President, the party will increase in strength and stature with other political parties that make up the madani government.
Probably some of the members of the party hide their growing fear of the unmistakeable truths staring at them with jokes and uneasy laughs.
Again, probably they will try to convince each other that they will make history with the new Deputy President reviving the party and potentially becoming the 1st female Prime Minister of the country.
Hopefully for those who voted for the new Deputy President, they will never get or have the need to ask this question sometime in future.
What is the father and daughter doing?
