Rafizi also welcomed continued efforts by the authorities to investigate and prosecute politicians and civil servants where there was evidence of criminal breach of trust.
PETALING JAYA: Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama) leader Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has urged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to instruct the Chief Secretary to the Government to immediately disclose the investigation papers concerning the share ownership issue involving Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.
In a statement today, Rafizi said the investigation papers had already been presented to the Cabinet and should no longer be withheld from public scrutiny.
He said this was particularly important as the matter was understood to be disciplinary in nature under regulations governing civil servants.
Rafizi also welcomed continued efforts by the authorities to investigate and prosecute politicians and civil servants where there was evidence of criminal breach of trust.
“The recent series of arrests involving the MACC’s investigation into Tabung Haji is part of the authorities’ continued efforts to investigate and prosecute any politician or civil servant where there is evidence of criminal breach of trust.
“Over the past two weeks, prominent leaders from Barisan Nasional (BN) have been remanded, detained or charged.
“I welcome the continued efforts by the authorities to investigate and prosecute any politician or civil servant where there is evidence that they have committed a criminal breach of trust,” he said.
However, Rafizi stressed that the credibility of institutions such as the MACC, police and other enforcement agencies was crucial to ensuring that their actions were not perceived as politically motivated.
“In the current political climate, amid the dispute between Pakatan Harapan and BN, I am concerned that the MACC’s efforts, as well as those of other enforcement agencies to combat corruption, could be clouded by allegations of political motives,” he said.
Rafizi said disclosing the investigation report concerning Azam could help counter political attacks and prevent them from undermining public confidence in the MACC’s investigations into cases involving Tabung Haji.
“Given that the Azam Baki case is only a disciplinary matter under the regulations governing civil servants, it should not be kept under wraps,” he said.
He added that greater transparency would help distinguish legitimate enforcement action from allegations of political interference.
