
Kota Kinabalu: Datuk Abdul Rahman Zakaria has been officially appointed as Sabah Football Association’s (Safa) new secretary general.
Safa president Datuk Shahelmey Yahya, who made the announcement on Thursday, said the appointment of the former Safa deputy president was unanimously approved at the executive meeting held on June 9.
There was no change in the treasurer general post with Datuk Jasnih Daya remaining at the helm while former supreme council member Shamsuddin Mohd Shah was appointed the assistant secretary general.
Shahelmey said the appointment is vital in the running of the new committee under his leadership.

Read more “Safa plays an important role in the development of football in the State and the restructuring of the committee is very important to ensure that the development and management of Safa can continue to run smoothly,” he said.
He assured that Safa will draw up programmes to focus fully in identifying raw talents from the grassroot level.
“We will organise various programmes to unearth potential players and develop them through grassroots football training programmes.
“Courses for coaches and referees will continue to be held as they play important roles in the development of football in this State.
“At the same time, Safa will also be carrying out the responsibility to ensure the continued development of futsal for both men and women,” he added.
Shahelmey had earlier been elected Safa president unopposed at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) cum election of new office bearers in May.
Also elected were deputy presidents Khairul Firdaus Akhbar Khan and Datuk Awang Kadin Tang.
The four new vice presidents are Alijus Sipil, Datuk Fairuz Renddan, Rafie Robert, Dato’ Sri Ruddy Awah and Marasun Hassim while the supreme council members are Mohd Arziz Afizy Rumsani, Mohd Arzahri Abd Rahman, Mohd Rafiuddin Gulisan, Abd Aziz Mohd Ibno, Datuk Razak Sulaiman, Yuszaimie Abdullah, Jackson Taguah and Rosman Hussain.
Meanwhile, the previous secretary general was Dato’ Jelani Hamdan and the assistant was Azman Mastar.
