Kota Kinabalu: Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan will likely make a comeback and contest in the coming 15th General Election (GE15).

He, however, said it would still be subjected to the party leadership’s decision, which he would fully comply with.

“Whether or not I will contest, it is up to the decision of the party leadership. But the leadership has already implied for me to contest in the coming parliamentary election. I do not mind offering myself as a candidate.

“As a politician, the intention to serve and develop our State and country runs in my blood. I’ve always been close to that vision and mission,” he told reporters after launching the Universiti Malaysia Sabah Hospital (HUMS) mobile clinic at the UMS Chancellory Building, here, Friday.

The former Kota Belud MP did not disclose which seat he would be contesting.

“The important thing is that my name will be in the candidates list, God-willing. Together with other allies (in Barisan Nasional), we will ensure BN secures the best position in the elections,” he said.

Asked if he has any idea of which seat he will be contesting, he hinted that he could be fielded in Kota Belud or Tuaran.

“Well, you can narrow it down. I have never left Kota Belud. (In GE14), I was directed by the party to contest the Sepanggar seat.

“I did not agree with the decision, but I complied because it was the party’s decision. And in the end, as we know, this strategy did not bear fruit,” he said.

Rahman said he still has a lot of aspirations for Kota Belud’s development, which includes establishing a polytechnic school.

“I still have a lot of ideas for Kota Belud which are on hold. Previously, I have promised to establish the Kota Belud Polytechnic.

“So even though I was not elected as the people’s representative in Kota Belud for five years, I have strived my best to acquire the Federal Government’s approval to build a polytechnic there.

“Thanks be to God, approval has been granted to kick-start the first phase of the Kota Belud Polytechnic project,” he said, adding that priority is also given to Tuaran, as he is also Umno Tuaran Chief.

“But it is not my decision. I will abide by the party’s decision, wherever I may be fielded,” he said.

In the 14th General Election, Rahman lost the Sepanggar parliamentary seat to Outgoing Warisan Wira Chief Datuk Azis Jamman.
