‘According to our weather forecast, rain was expected in Johor Bahru in the afternoon, but it came earlier.’

JOHOR BAHRU: Rain in several parts of Johor, including Muar and Kluang, could slightly disrupt voter turnout momentum in the state election, the Election Commission (EC) said today.

EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said that although weather conditions had improved in some areas, rain that arrived earlier than expected in Johor Bahru could affect voters’ movement.

“According to our weather forecast, rain was expected in Johor Bahru in the afternoon, but it came earlier. We hope there will be no rain this afternoon,” he told reporters at SMK Bandar Uda Utama here.

On election-related incidents, Ramlan said no serious incidents had been reported so far.

However, the EC had received 799 complaints as of yesterday, of which 96 involved police action, while the remaining complaints related to issues such as campaign posters and matters referred to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

He said cases requiring police action had been referred to the authorities for further investigation and action.

On reports of elderly voters arriving at the wrong polling stations, Ramlan said such situations should have been avoided through earlier checks.

“Checks should have been carried out earlier, but we have provided verification counters and will assist those affected so they can cast their votes,” he said.
