
MITSUBISHI Motors Philippines Corp. (MMPC) expects demand for electric sports utility vehicles (SUVs) to outstrip that for sedans amid the current rainy season.
“With the rainy season currently being experienced in the Philippines, we anticipate that more Filipinos may prefer vehicles with higher ground clearance, particularly SUVs,” the company said as it launched an hybrid electric version of its Outlander model.The new Outlander SUV, Mitsubushi’s first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (EV) model in the Philippine market, has a 2.4-liter gasoline engine and dual electric motors. The company claims a combined system output of 306 PS and 450 N-m of torque, and a driving range of up to 100 kilometers (km) for pure EV and nearly 1,000 km combined.The car uses AC Type 2 charging and features four EV and seven terrain-specific drive modes.The standard price is P2.848 million, with an introductory offer price of P2.749 million until Sept. 30.The launch of the model was said to be an important milestone in Mitsubishi Philippines’ vehicle electrification journey and the company reiterated a commitment to bring EV technologies to Filipino customers.MMPC — the longest-operating automotive company in the Philippines with the second-biggest market share — operates a 23-hectare manufacturing facility in Santa Rosa, Laguna, where it manufactures the Mirage G4 subcompact sedan and the L300 light commercial vehicle.
