MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Thursday announced the onset of the rainy season.
Nathaniel Servando, Pagasa administrator, told The Manila Times via Viber that the wet season would be particularly experienced over the next few months across the western sections of Luzon and the Visayas.
“However, periods of reduced rainfall, commonly referred to as monsoon breaks, may occur and last for several days or weeks,” Servando said.
Moreover, the Pagasa chief said that with the looming El Nino phenomenon, rainfall due to the enhanced southwest monsoon or "habagat" would be likely over the same areas in Luzon and Visayas.
He then advised the public and local government units to take precautionary measures against the possible adverse impact of the rainy season and habagat in the coming months.
