The State Government is committed to bringing Sabah to a better and more advanced level in line with the concept of Malaysia Madani initiated by the Unity Government.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said this commitment was translated into the Development Plan for Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) which emphasised the empowerment of education and training, the empowerment of the economic sector and the strengthening of relations and understanding between the multi-racial, religious and cultural communities in the State.
“We are truly grateful because Sabah has been given an abundant source of sustenance. In addition to sustenance in the form of crops and livestock, this blessed land is also overflowing with the blessings of a beautiful environment in addition to other natural resources such as oil and gas.
“With all these blessings, we need to manage all sources of wealth with full trust. Therefore, all parties must be big-hearted to apply wisdom and skills to optimise the ability to explore and utilise the potential of the source of wealth.
“All the yields from agriculture, livestock, forest, petroleum, gas and so on will not give any profit and benefit if people do not know and want to take the initiative to change themselves to appreciate and be thankful for favours in a positive, creative and innovative way,” he said.
He said apart from conserving existing upstream resources, the people should be wise and creative in diversifying downstream industries in an effort to add value to existing products.
“This ability can of course only be done through the mastery of relevant knowledge and skills such as science and technology, engineering and mathematics.
“In the context of Sabah, we are grateful that despite the various challenges faced both at the global and domestic levels, efforts to develop the State in various sectors through the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya are now on the right track.
“Therefore all people in this State regardless of race and religion should support efforts that can strengthen unity,” he said in conjunction with the Presentation of Prizes cum the Closing of Sabah State-level Al-Quran Recitation and Memorisation Ceremony at Dewan Saadah, Wisma MUIS, Kota Kinabalu, on Mar 9.
Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin graced the ceremony. His consort Toh Puan Norlidah RM Jasni and the Chief Minister’s wife Datin Seri Juliah Salag were also present.
