Raja Bomoh, renowned for his unconventional methods and mystical rituals, has stepped forward to assist in the search for Vijaya Lakshmi Gali, who tragically fell into a sinkhole at Jalan Masjid India. The search for her, now in its sixth day, has seen Raja Bomoh offer his help using his distinctive techniques, pending approval from local authorities.
Raja Bomoh, whose real name is Ibrahim Mat Zin, gained fame for his dramatic rituals involving coconuts and other symbolic items. He was seen at the scene on August 28, expressing his desire to contribute to the ongoing search efforts. According to him, his involvement is motivated by a genuine wish to aid in the recovery, given the extended efforts of the rescue teams who have been searching for days without success.
The incident at Jalan Masjid India has become increasingly complex with the appearance of a second sinkhole approximately 50 meters away from the original site. This new sinkhole emerged around 2:30 AM on August 28, likely as a result of heavy rainfall the previous night. The added complication of a second sinkhole has intensified the urgency of the search operations.
Raja Bomoh is perhaps best known for his high-profile rituals and dramatic public appearances. He became widely recognized during a 2017 incident when he performed a ritual involving two coconuts to "protect Malaysia" from a potential nuclear threat posed by North Korea. His unconventional approach also extended to the search for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 in 2014, where he used coconuts and bamboo binoculars in his efforts.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Raja Bomoh's methods included rituals with a globe, mini telescope, turmeric rice, and pandan leaves dipped in water, aiming to shield Malaysia from the virus. Despite the unusual nature of his rituals, Raja Bomoh has faced legal issues in the past. He was charged under the Syariah Criminal Offences (Federal Territories) 1997 (Act 559) for actions deemed disrespectful to the Islamic faith. After his release, he was placed on a six-month good behavior bond and placed under the observation of the Federal Territories Mufti office.
Raja Bomoh has since expressed remorse for his previous actions and the controversial rituals, claiming they were conducted under someone else's instruction, whose identity remains undisclosed. He has since apologized and vowed to repent for his past behavior, aiming to distance himself from past controversies.
