With a galore of foods to choose from at Ramadan bazaars this year, most stall owners are finding new and innovative ways to create meals that will pique the interest of potential customers. One Malaysian, however, decided to come up with a spooky name for one of his latest creations, that is taking people by storm.
Malaysian stall owner Yusri Baharin recently shared this creation to his TikTok page @yusri_baharin, after coming up with a rather unique item to sell at the Ramadan bazaar in Stadium Paroi, Seremban. In the video, Yusri revealed that he created an wrapped snack called Roti Pocong – yes, named after the legendary Malaysian ghosts.
Going all out in sharing this item with the public, it did seem to resemble that of a pocong, wrapped tightly in a piece of roti, and knotted on both ends. Taking it one step further, Yusri even created a life-sized pocong figure to display at the front of his stall, promoting the item with added flair.
In a brief conversation with WORLD OF BUZZ, Yusri said that he decided to name his food creation Roti Pocong due to its resemblance to that of a wrapped body. Funnily enough, Yusri also described what the item contains, and it did sound pretty delicious. The wrap in itself, costs RM10 per piece.
“I originally thought of naming it Roti Mayat, but then I thought Pocong would be more suitable. It consists of smoked minced beef wrapped with egg and roti canai. We also melt cheddar cheese on it after it’s done,” explained Yusri to WORLD OF BUZZ.
Garnering an entertaining response online, many users expressed how creative they thought the roti was, with a few mentioning how shocked they were when Yusri panned his camera to display the Pocong figure.
“So, is it filled with corpse meat?” jokingly asked one user.
Others couldn’t help but throw jests in relation to the item, with one user saying that it looked cute despite its name.
“After seeing that price, I think the Pocong will also rise from the dead,” light-heartedly wrote another person.
