Kota Kinabalu: The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry through the Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (Fama) has set up three Ramadan Bazaars here which is expected to help the livelihoods of 131 entrepreneurs.
Deputy Minister Chan Foong Hin said the bazaars are located in Asia City, Taman Putera Jaya Telipok and Pusat Islam Universiti Malaysia Sabah.
Fama is targeting revenue of RM800,000 from the Asia City Ramadan Bazaar which has been a regular feature since 2001.
“For Asia City, 95 traders have registered, which is an increase from 70 last year. I believe this is line with the economic recovery we are experiencing, especially this festive season.
“The response has been good and I hope all stalls will be able to incur appropriate revenue, and at the same time I hope they can offer reasonable prices to consumers,” he said, after officiating the bazaar at Asia City, Sunday.
Earlier, the KK MP presented alms in the form of cash, bubur lambuk, kurma and Industri Kecil Sederhana (IKS) products to residents of Rumah Anak Kesayangan Kota Kinabalu. He also distributed
bubur lambuk to traders and visitors of the bazaar.
Fama also recently launched the “Jualan Ramadan Madani” nationwide programme in Sabah, namely Pasar Tani Asia City, Pasar Tani Putera Jaya and Pasar Tani Kekal Keningau, which recorded sales of RM250,000.
On the supply of food commodities, Chan said there would be sufficient supply especially in the coming festive season, including eggs.
Meanwhile, Mayor Datuk Noorliza Awang Alip was pleased with the level of cleanliness at the Asia City Ramadan Bazaar, which showed improvement from last year.
“As usual, there are health requirements that have been set. They must undergo health screenings and have their yellow (health) card.
“We do monitor this alongside the Health Department and so far everything is smooth and we have not received any complaints,” she said.
