KUALA LUMPUR — PKR vice-president Datuk Seri R. Ramanan has challenged former economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli to back his claim that Ramanan received RM9.5 million from a businessman over the “corporate mafia” issue.
The Human Resources Minister said claims should not be made without evidence.
“He said he had evidence. Is there even one piece of paper as evidence? Where is his evidence?”
“He is a serial liar,” Ramanan said at a press conference today after the ministry’s (Kesuma) staff appreciation ceremony.
Rafizi two days ago took issue with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s explanation in the Dewan Rakyat about the corporate mafia issue. The former PKR deputy president, now with Bersama, said Anwar failed to address key concerns of collusion between businessmen and enforcement agency personnel.
Anwar in the Dewan Rakyat also dismissed allegations that a minister had received RM9.5 million from a businessman, describing them as politically motivated claims unsupported by evidence.
Rafizi, who had previously accused Ramanan over the RM9.5 million from a businessman, said he had yet to receive any notice of summons from the latter and that he was prepared to present his evidence in court.
Ramanan today said he would not take legal action against Rafizi, so as not to “burden the public”, citing a fundraising drive Rafizi had launched previously in a defamation suit brought against him by National Feedlot Corp (NFC) chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Salleh Ismail. In April 2022, however, the Federal Court dismissed Salleh’s appeal and ruled in favour of Rafizi.
Ramanan added that Rafizi deliberately made allegations without facts to divert attention from other issues, calling him a “failed minister” over issues such as Datasonic Group Bid’s contract to supply vending machines that Rafizi oversaw as economy minister.
Ramanan also raised questions over allegations raised in a blog and on social media that Rafizi was said to have receive RM500,000 from an individual to extend a government contract, asking whether legal action had been taken against such claims.
Rafizi has previously denied improper dealings in allegations regarding Datasonic and the alleged contract extension.
Ramanan then turned on another Bersama leader, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, who is currently embroiled in a khalwat case. Ramanan asked for explanations as the the woman Nik Nazmi was caught with worked for a foundation that is reportedly a subsidiary of the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry, where he was minister.
Ramanan did not provide documentary evidence to substantiate claims raised during his press conference today. - October 22, 2026
