The anticipated meeting between the Minister of Unity, Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, and Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad to address concerns raised by Dr. Mahathir about the loyalty of Malaysians of Indian descent has been met with skepticism by former DAP leader P. Ramasamy. In a recent Facebook post, Ramasamy welcomed the dialogue but expressed doubt about its potential impact, characterizing it as more of a monologue than a genuine exchange of ideas.

Ramasamy, drawing on Dr. Mahathir's extensive political experience, speculated that the meeting would likely involve Dr. Mahathir speaking while Aaron listens. The former DAP leader emphasized that, in essence, the encounter might resemble a monologue rather than a constructive dialogue. This sentiment highlights concerns about the effectiveness of the meeting in fostering understanding and addressing the issues raised by Dr. Mahathir.

Dr. Mahathir had initially expressed his willingness to meet with Aaron following his controversial statement questioning the loyalty of the Malaysian Indian community to the country. The former Prime Minister emphasized the need for unity in Malaysia, criticizing the existence of political parties based on race and suggesting the establishment of a truly Malaysian party to transcend ethnic divisions.

However, Aaron, in response to Dr. Mahathir's statement, deemed it inappropriate for political leaders to make such sweeping generalizations. He emphasized the role of leaders as exemplars in promoting unity, harmony, and a sense of togetherness. Aaron expressed disappointment and condemned Dr. Mahathir's remarks, calling for a more constructive approach to address issues related to loyalty and unity.

The condemnation extended beyond Aaron, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also criticizing Dr. Mahathir's statement as irresponsible. Anwar highlighted a pattern in Dr. Mahathir's rhetoric, accusing him of making divisive statements about different ethnic groups in the past. According to Anwar, Dr. Mahathir has been known to stereotype Malays as lazy, except for himself, while questioning the loyalty of Malaysians of Indian and Chinese descent unless they align with his political views.

The collective disapproval from both Aaron and Anwar underscores the gravity of Dr. Mahathir's statement and its potential impact on national unity. The situation raises concerns about the effectiveness of the meeting in resolving these issues, especially given Ramasamy's skepticism about the dialogue evolving into a genuine exchange of perspectives.
