POLICE dismantled an organised criminal gang involved in murders, violent crimes and the collection of protection money active in Kedah and Penang through a special operation recently.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) Director, Datuk M Kumar said the syndicate is believed to have about 35 members and is active in the Sungai Petani, Kulim and several locations in Penang.
"This group is believed to be involved in various violent criminal activities including robbery, causing serious injuries, murder and drug trafficking in addition to extortion and collecting protection money from victims.
"Acting on intelligence and information, the police launched an integrated operation known as Ops Tiga involving the cooperation of Bukit Aman, the Kedah Contingent Police Station and the Bukit Aman Special Branch," he said told a press conference at Bukit Aman today.
He said that as a result of the operation carried out from November 27 to December 4, a total of 17 members of the group, aged between 24 and 42, were successfully arrested.
"A record check found that all the suspects had various criminal records including murder, gang robbery, use of firearms, causing serious injury and drug trafficking.
"All suspects will be charged at the Sungai Petani Court on December 30," he said.
In a similar development, Kumar informed that the police are still actively hunting for the remaining members of the group who are still at large, including the main leader of the syndicate.
"Efforts to track and arrest them are being carried out aggressively.
"The police believe that with these arrests, the activities of the criminal group can be completely crushed and the threat to public safety can be contained," he said.
He also stressed that PDRM will not compromise on any organised crime group and will continue to take firm action to ensure that public safety and order are maintained. – December 29, 2025
