RANAU: The Ranau District Office became the first in Sabah to introduce a cashless payment system using debit cards.
The new payment facility marks another significant milestone in the government’s ongoing efforts to modernise public administration by embracing digital technology to enhance efficiency, transparency and customer convenience.
The initiative is expected to provide a faster, safer and more seamless payment experience while reducing reliance on cash transactions.
The move forms part of the government’s broader digitalisation agenda, which seeks to improve the efficiency of revenue collection, strengthen financial management and streamline service delivery across government agencies.
Recognising that digital transformation requires time and adaptation, the District Office will continue to accept cash payments during the transition period.
This is to enable senior citizens and those less familiar with electronic payment methods to adapt to the new system.
The cashless initiative is expected to benefit residents and business owners in matters involving new business licence applications, licence renewals and other government-related payments.
By reducing the need to handle cash, the new system is anticipated to shorten waiting times at service counters, minimise administrative processes and improve the overall efficiency of daily operations.
