KOTA KINABALU:  A 28-year-old shop owner was fined a total of RM4,000 by the Sessions Court for possessing and selling unregistered products and cosmetics without notification.

Judge Hurman Hussain imposed the fines on Ho Xue Nie after she pleaded guilty to three charges involving the sale and possession of unregistered health products and unnotified cosmetics at her shop in Ranau on June 13, 2024.

Ho was fined RM1,000 for selling unregistered products, RM1,500 for possessing five unregistered items, and RM1,500 for having 23 types of cosmetics without notification, with jail terms in default.

The court heard that Ho operated the business to support her family as her husband is disabled, and had also lost nearly RM5,000 worth of goods confiscated during the raid.

Prosecutors stressed that registration and notification are essential to protect public health and ensure product safety.
