RANAU: Thousands of residents will no longer face uncertain piped water supply following completion of the RM62 million Raw Water Pipe Installation Project from the intake source at Sungai Mamut Ulu to the new treatment plant, here.

Accessing clean water supply has long plagued residents in this district following the 2015 earthquake during the rainy season, especially when the Liwagu river gets swollen.

The inauguration was officiated by Sabah Finance Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun, Saturday.

The Karanaan Assemblyman said ever since the earthquake that hit Ranau in 2015, the district had been experiencing water supply interruptions This forced the Ranau Water Department intake to be shut down and consumers not getting supply.

The problem has been resolved by building one new water plant with new intakes from Sungai Nakamura and Sungai Mamut Ulu.

"This project includes pipelines for both raw and treated water, along with a modern water treatment plant capable of producing five million litres per day.

“The system is designed to supplement supply produced at Kimolohing Water Treatment Plant to ensure steady and enhanced water service throughout the district,” he said.

Masidi thanked all parties, including representatives of State and Federal Government agencies and Syarikat Prestimaju Sdn Bhd which completed this project three months ahead of schedule.

“Clean water is the lifeblood of development and the well-being of the people. With close cooperation between the Government, agencies and the private sector, we are able to realise projects that provide great benefits to the community,” he said.

Meanwhile, Paginatan Assemblyman cum Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Abidin Madingkir, said the project is part of the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) agenda pioneered by the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government for the well-being of the people.

Abidin said the GRS leadership is on the right track and what is needed is continued support from the people.
