THE Dewan Rakyat is poised to deliberate two significant national issues today, with Malaysia’s rare earth elements (REE) industry and the nation’s readiness to adopt nuclear energy taking centre stage.
The Order Paper shows that Datuk Dr Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail (PN–Kubang Pasu) will press the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability on the obstacles hindering the development of the country’s REE sector. He is also seeking insight into government plans to overcome these challenges and tap into an estimated RM747 billion in REE deposits nationwide.
Attention will also turn to nuclear policy, as Tan Hong Pin (PH–Bakri) poses a series of questions to the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation. His queries focus on Malaysia’s preparedness to develop nuclear energy, levels of public acceptance of nuclear science and technology, and the government’s efforts to bolster advocacy and outreach. He further intends to ask how agencies are strengthening their capacity to respond to potential nuclear-related emergencies.
Once the oral question session concludes, the House will proceed to the committee-stage debate on the Supply (Budget) Bill 2026.
The Third Meeting of the Fourth Session of the 15th Parliament spans 35 days and is scheduled to end on 4 December. - November 19, 2025
