A rare and brief waterspout was spotted near Penang International Airport, capturing the attention of social media users.

The phenomenon occurred at approximately 11:15 AM on November 13, according to footage circulating on social media.

The waterspout formed and disappeared quickly

The video, reportedly filmed by a staff member from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) from the airport’s air traffic control tower, shows the waterspout forming and disappearing within a short span of about 30 seconds.

In the video, a giant waterspout was seen forming behind a hill, slowly raising its tail and disappearing into the clouds in the 30-second clip.

Authorities have yet to release a formal statement regarding the incident, but no disruptions to airport operations have been reported so far.

Netizens’ reaction

Netizens were quick to share their thoughts, noting that while waterspouts are not uncommon in Penang, it was their first time witnessing one so close to the airport.

#meteorology #aviation #penangisland #Landspout #naturalphenomenon #metmalaysia
