INEOS chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe is willing to walk away from buying Manchester United.
The Manchester-born billionaire has professed his desire to bring United back to its roots with the fans.
However, his INEOS is being rivaled by the Qatari royal family, who are putting their bid through Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Ratcliffe was asked about his takeover offer in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.
He stated: "How do you decide the price of a painting? How do you decide the price of a house? It's not related to how much it cost to build or how much it cost to paint."
Ratcliffe then added: "What you don't want to do is pay stupid prices for things because then you regret it subsequently."
