Sir Jim Ratcliffe has outbid Sheikh Jassim for Manchester United, it has emerged.
Both men tabled new offers for United before Friday's deadline.
BBC Sport says Ratcliffe's Ineos Group has indicated they value United as greater than rival Sheikh Jassim.
Qatar banker Sheikh Jassim wants to buy 100% of the club and has offered about 5bn. In contrast Ratcliffe only wants a controlling stake.
He is offering to take a majority stake and keep the Glazer brothers Joel and Avram involved as minority shareholders.
