What to Do If Your Car Is Rear-Ended

1. Stay Calm
If someone hits your car from behind, don’t panic. Take a deep breath and stay composed.
2. Move to a Safe Spot
Safely pull your vehicle to the side of the road, away from traffic, to prevent further congestion or danger.
3. Keep it Legal and Safe
Once stopped, grab your phone with a camera. Step out of the car calmly. Do not carry dangerous items like steering locks, knives, or metal tools—these could be interpreted as weapons.
4. Document Everything
Take clear photos of the other car’s license plate and road tax.
5. Approach Politely
Greet the other driver respectfully. Even if you’re upset, avoid insults or aggressive behavior.
6. Ask, Don’t Argue
Politely ask why the collision happened. Avoid arguments or blaming because it won’t solve anything and can create more traffic chaos.
7. Verify Identity
If possible, request to see the driver’s ID or driving license and take a photo for records.
8. Don’t Force Payment
If the other driver denies fault, don’t insist on money. Legally, rear-end collisions are usually the fault of the driver who hits from behind.
