RCI TH: MACC to charge former minister on Monday

THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained permission from the Attorney-General's Chambers to charge a former minister in connection with the investigation into the Tabung Haji Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) Report.

Its Chief Commissioner, Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman, said the former minister will face three charges under Section 403 of the Penal Code.

He said the charges will be presented at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Monday, September 14.

“Our side has received permission to prosecute from the Attorney General to present charges to the court against the former minister.

“Our side has recommended three charges under Section 403 of the Penal Code,” he said at a press conference today.

It was earlier reported that the MACC released the former minister after being remanded to assist in the investigation into the Tabung Haji RCI issue.

The former minister, who is in his 60s, was previously remanded for seven days until last Monday after being detained on September 1 when he appeared at the MACC Headquarters to give a statement.

The detention is related to the investigation involving the lease of a hotel in Saudi Arabia and the issues raised in the RCI report.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 16(a)(a) of the MACC Act 2009, relating to the offence of soliciting or receiving a bribe as an inducement or reward in a matter.

If convicted, the individual involved can be sentenced to imprisonment for up to 20 years. years and a fine of not less than five times the value of the bribe involved or RM10,000, whichever is higher, according to Section 24 of the same Act. – September 10, 2026
