What has happened in Reacher season 3 so far?
Spoilers below!
In typical Reacher fashion, season 3 begins in a small town. This time, it’s Abbotsville in Maine. In the first episode, Persuader, Reacher rescues Richard Beck (played by Johnny Berchtold) from getting kidnapped, while trying to sell old vinyl at a record store. Seems out of character, right?
Well, as he drives off with Richard after shooting a police officer, Reacher ends up at the latter’s house. There, Richard’s father Zachery Beck, a rug businessman (a detail which Reacher keeps mentioning, almost like there’s more to it) offers him a job. As he accepts, the show reveals its first plot twist. Reacher takes a cell phone out of the heel of his shoe and calls Susan Duffy (played by Sonya Cassidy). Turns out, he is undercover for the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) to find an MIA DEA agent who was investigating them for possibly selling not just rugs but rugs starting with a ‘d’!
As Truckin progresses, Reacher starts getting settled into the Beck household while still looking for Teresa and updating Duffy. In the process, his cover almost gets blown but he manages to keep it by killing Angel Doll (played by Manuel Rodriguez-Saenz).
Episode 3, Number 2 with a Bullet, is where season 3 starts picking up. As Reacher continues to look for Quinn (played by Brian Tee), he finds out that Zachery isn’t the mastermind behind the smuggling. In fact, he is a puppet of his boss, Julius McCabe, who is running the entire operation. Reacher also manages to secure the position of Beck’s number 2.
Dominique, episode 4 of Reacher season 3 tells the heart-wrenching story of Reacher’s trusted sidekick, Dominique Kohl, in sequenced flashbacks. Kohl, a young sergeant, was brutally murdered by Xavier Quinn who has now assumed the identity of Julius McCabe. It, however, ends on a cliffhanger as McCabe’s men track Angel Doll’s laptop to Duffy. Reacher must get to her before they do to save her.
The fast-paced, high-stakes episode 5 of Reacher season 3 is where things get interesting. After saving Duffy from being intercepted by McCabe’s men, Reacher finds himself with her fallen badge, which he hides in one of his pillows. Additionally, in this episode, Reacher and Duffy find out that instead of drugs, Beck and McCabe are smuggling guns.
Smackdown also features character deaths that push the story forward. First, Steven (portrayed by Daniel David Stewart) is killed by Beck’s captured bodyguard who then escapes the cabin. Later, he is shot by Reacher before he can get to Beck and reveal that the kidnapping was fake. Second, when McCabe orders the staff to be searched, Beck finds a mobile phone belonging to one of the maids. After finding out that she’s an informant, Paulie swiftly gets rid of her.
The episode concludes with McCabe summoning both Reacher and Beck, as the former gets ready to confront Quinn, or die trying.
