Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti slammed the match officials and the Valencia crowd after defeat on Sunday.

Vinicius Jr was sent off at the end of the game after being subject of racist chants throughout the match.

Ancelotti said: "I spoke to him during the match because the atmosphere was very warm and negative. I asked him if he wanted to continue. I didn't want to replace him because of the racist environment.

"It's never happened to me. Not in this one way. It is unacceptable, the Spanish league has a problem that is not Vinicius, he is the victim. You cannot play football like this. I would say the same if we had won. It is too serious a subject.

"They always insult Vinicuis and then he takes the red. It saddens me a lot, this is a league with great teams, but we have to correct this behavior. We are in 2023. The only way is to stop the games. It is true that there is a protocol, but you have to leave the pitch."

"He protested, but nothing happened. The solution was to stop the game. He is the player who receives the most fouls and the one who receives the most insults. I told the referee that I would take him off and he he told me he had to continue. After the red card, the whole stadium yelled monkey, monkey at him. I am very sad. Nothing like this has ever happened to me. He is a boy and wanted to continue, but in these conditions it is very complicated.

"The VAR invented aggression, but he was only trying to free himself from the scrum. The boy is sad because all he wants is to play football. For me, we should have stopped the game. He was not a person who went crazy, it was the stadium that went crazy. I've never seen an entire stadium make a racist chant. Sure, like all young people, Vinicius can improve in some respects too. But when a stadium insults you, young people can't be cold. The teammates and the club support him in everything."
