The recent unveiling of the realme 12 5G means that the realme 12 Series lineup for 2024 is finally complete. The base model realme 12 5G sports a snazzy new look compared to its predecessor, but how do things fare in other aspects?

Here’s a brief look at what’s different between the realme 12 5G and the realme 11 5G.

You only need a glance to see that the realme 12 5G has gone through a pretty major redesign compared to its predecessor. For starters, the camera bump has shifted from the top corner to the top middle, consistent with what you’ll see in all models in the realme 12 Series.

Though they are circular, the camera module on the realme 12 5G is far more eye-catching thanks to what realme calls a ‘Polished Sunburst Dial’. Additionally, the rear panels now have a textured strip running from top to bottom.

The good news is that there hasn’t been too much of a change in pricing. In fact, the 8GB+256GB model of the realme 12 5G is cheaper compared to the realme 11 5G of the same configuration. There’s also a 512GB model now which isn’t too expensive at RM1,299.

There are several carry-forwards in other aspects. realme has opted to reuse the Dimensity 6100+ chipset, and displays too are very similar except that the realme 12 5G now has a higher 950nits peak brightness.

The same can be said about cameras, with both the realme 12 5G and realme 11 5G keeping to a 108MP main camera and a 2MP portrait camera. Interestingly enough, front cameras have been reduced to 8MP on the realme 12 5G from 16MP on its predecessor.

What’s also peculiar is that the realme 12 5G has reduced charging speeds of 45W, compared to 67W on the realme 11 5G. Battery capacity though remains at 5,000mAh.

Despite that, the realme 12 5G has the honors of debuting realme’s new Dynamic Button feature. What this does is turn your power button into a customizable quick access button to certain functions, including sound modes, camera, and even third-party apps.
