Recent Rain Rave Water Music Festival generated over RM320m - Tiong

THE recent Rave Water Music Festival 2026 generated an estimated RM320.43 million into Malaysia’s economy, fuelled by an estimated 415,000 visitors — including around 100,000 international tourists.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Tiong King Sing said the event was selected as one of the flagship attractions under the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (TMM2026) campaign, in collaboration with Tourism Malaysia and private sector partners.

“About 415,000 visitors thronged the event, including international tourists from China, Japan, India, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat today.

In a bid to spread the economic spillover, the festival will be expanded to multiple locations nationwide, including Terengganu, Melaka, Labuan, Negeri Sembilan, Johor and Langkawi in future.

The government allocated RM11 million for the event, with an additional RM4 million coming from private sector contributions.

Tiong said the returns are significant, with every RM1 spent by the government generating an estimated RM36 in economic activity through tourism spending, local businesses and related services.

Despite its strong commercial potential, the festival was free to all.

The decision, he said, reflects the government’s intention to make the event accessible to the public while boosting participation during TMM2026.

He also pointed to strong backing from industry players — including malls, hotels, transport operators and international brands — as a sign of growing confidence in Malaysia’s tourism sector.

Malaysia recorded 17.5 million visitor arrivals as of May, up 3.4% from 16.9 million in the same period last year, signalling steady recovery and momentum. – June 23, 2026
