
TAWAU: A man believed to have been driving recklessly and flashing an obscene gesture at other road users, recently, at the Jalan Kubota Batu 3 Jalan Apas junction here, was arrested last Saturday.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin said the 32-year-old suspect was detained at around 2.50pm by a team from the District Criminal Investigation Division (BSJD) in front of a lodging house in Tawau town.
“The incident was reported to have occurred last Wednesday when the victim, a female technician driving a Perodua Ativa along Jalan Apas, was startled by a Perodua Myvi that shot out from a junction recklessly,” he said on Sunday.

However, the suspect then exited his vehicle.
According to him, the suspect made an obscene gesture and even issued verbal challenges to fight, leaving the victim distressed and frightened which led her to lodge a report.
“Police investigations revealed that the suspect has six prior criminal records involving offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act, including under Section 39B and Section 15(1)(a), recorded in Papar, Kuala Lumpur, and Tawau,” he said.
Jasmin added that the case is now being investigated under Section 279 of the Penal Code for driving recklessly and endangering other road users.
He also advised the public to always obey traffic laws and keep their emotions in check when faced with tense situations on the road.
“Any aggressive act or threat toward other road users not only endangers safety but may also lead to legal action.
“We also urge the public to report any suspicious behaviour or dangerous situations to the police for immediate action,” he said.
