A tragic accident occurred on Jalan Lingkaran Dalam, claiming the life of a young motorcyclist. The victim, a 20-year-old man, was involved in a fatal collision after a vehicle made an abrupt lane change. The incident, which happened at 4:05 PM on Saturday, July 6, was detailed by Johor Baru South OCPD Assistant Commissioner (ACP) Raub Selamat in a statement released on Sunday, July 7.
According to ACP Raub, the accident involved a 40-year-old courier driver who was navigating his car from Skudai towards Permas Jaya. As the driver approached the accident site, he made an unexpected lane change from the left to the right. This sudden maneuver left the motorcyclist, who was employed as a machine technician in Singapore, with insufficient time to react and avoid the collision. Consequently, he crashed into the left side of the courier's vehicle.
The impact of the crash was severe, causing the motorcyclist to be thrown violently to the left side of the road. Despite prompt emergency response efforts, the young man sustained critical head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. ACP Raub expressed his condolences and stressed the importance of road safety in preventing such tragedies.
"The car driver was unharmed in the incident," ACP Raub noted. Following the accident, the driver underwent a drug test, which returned negative results. He is currently under remand for a period of four days to assist in the ongoing investigation. The case is being examined under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which addresses causing death through reckless or dangerous driving.
This incident underscores the potential dangers posed by sudden and unexpected actions on the road. ACP Raub urged all drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to ensure the safety of all road users. He highlighted that even a momentary lapse in judgment or an impulsive decision, such as a sudden lane change, can have devastating consequences.
Eyewitnesses to the accident described the harrowing scene, recounting how the motorcyclist had no chance to avoid the vehicle that abruptly cut into his path. The force of the collision and the subsequent impact on the road surface left no room for survival. This tragic event has sparked conversations among local residents about road safety and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws.
The young victim was remembered by friends and colleagues as a diligent and hardworking individual who had recently started his job in Singapore. His untimely death has left a void in the hearts of those who knew him. His family, devastated by the loss, is now grappling with the sudden and unexpected tragedy.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. ACP Raub has called for any additional witnesses to come forward and provide information that might assist in the investigation. He reiterated the commitment of the Johor Baru South police to thoroughly investigate the incident and ensure that justice is served.
