Recognition for 35 at inaugural BEIA

SANDAKAN: A total of 35 recipients were recognised at the inaugural Borneo Entrepreneur and Industrial Awards (BEIA) 2026 held here, honouring the achievements, commitment and contributions of entrepreneurs and industry players from Sabah and the wider Borneo region.

Sabah Small and Medium Industries Entrepreneurs Chamber Chairman Andi Asmini Burhanuddin said the awards recognise entrepreneurs who have grown their businesses through perseverance, diligence and effective strategies.

He said BEIA 2026 covered various sectors, including agriculture and agro-based industries, the gold industry and other business fields, to showcase the diversity of entrepreneurial potential in Borneo, which also creates local economic opportunities, including jobs.

“We hope BEIA will also inspire the younger generation to venture into entrepreneurship and build businesses that can compete in a wider market,” he said.

Andi described the successful staging of the event as the start of efforts to expand strategic networks among entrepreneurs, government agencies, banking institutions and the private sector.

He also thanked all parties who helped make the event a success, including sponsors, strategic partners, government agencies and media practitioners who supported the entrepreneurial community.

Earlier, the event saw Yayasan Nur Jauhar adviser Toh Puan Norlidah R.M Jasni receive the BEIA 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award.

Norlidah, who was also guest of honour and officiated at the event, expressed her appreciation for the award.

She also commended the organisers for highlighting the contributions of individuals and organisations that have made an impact on society, including through welfare and community activities.

Norlidah hoped entrepreneurs in the state would continue to move forward and not give up easily, and succeed in their ventures, which would in turn benefit the local economy.

Meanwhile, BEIA 2026 Adviser Lt (Rtd) Awil Kamsari said the awards were not limited to business achievements but also included special recognition for individuals who have contributed through guidance, support and encouragement to the entrepreneurial community.

The main awards presented were the Lifetime Achievement Award and Special Awards.

He added that the organisers also received positive feedback from participants from outside Sabah, namely Brunei Darussalam and Sarawak.
