Record Roman coin haul discovered in Germany

• Amateur archaeologist Oliver Riedl has discovered a trove of 934 Roman silver denarii near Wesseling, Germany.
• The 3.1-kilogram find is the largest coin treasure from the era of Roman Emperor Hadrian ever discovered in Germany, according to the local office responsible for archaeological monuments.
• Experts believe the coins were deliberately hidden during the second quarter of the second century AD.
• The hoard equals approximately six years of disposable income for an ordinary legionary from that era.
• The collection of silver denarii has now gone on display at the LVR-LandesMuseum Bonn.
