A Malaysian cinemagoer recently shared what he almost did during the screening of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and prompted many responses from social media users, including the social media admin of the cinema itself.
In his viral Threads post, the man said that he wanted to record the post-credits scene of the Marvel flick, but was stopped by one of the cinema ushers who happened to notice what he wanted to do.
According to him, the usher told him to remove the recording, to which he told the usher that he hadn’t managed to film anything. The man, however, was not happy that he was confronted without getting an apology.
“He didn’t even apologise after I proved to him that I did not film anything.”
The usher allegedly told the cinemagoer to be careful if he was caught doing a similar act in the future.
Social media users, however, were baffled that he expected an apology, given that what he wanted to do was clearly against the rules set by Malaysian cinemas and the government. According to the Copyright Act 1987, those who are found guilty of recording scenes in the cinema can be fined up to RM50,000 and jailed for not more than 1 year.
As the man watched the movie at one of the GSC Cinemas outlets in Setapak, the social media admin of the cinema responded briefly in Mandarin and caught the attention of many.
“Record record record, record your head.”
GSC Cinemas is also well-known for its witty responses on social media at times, and after “Hello, Cannot!”, a phrase that was “birthed” about 5 years ago during the pandemic, may soon be replaced with “Record Your Head!”
In a Threads post by GSC last night (July 29), the cinema hinted at the possibilities of future merchandise with the phrase.
“The merchandise department just asked me about creating a T-shirt with the phrase. What should I do now?”
