Red Bull has taken a minority ownership stake in Championship outfit Leeds United.

The Elland Road club failed to achieve promotion to the Premier League, losing in the playoff final to Southampton.

However, they may be ready to heavily invest in the squad in the summer through Red Bull's investment.

"Red Bull's addition is a historic milestone that will further empower the club to reach its full competitive potential," Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe said.

The energy drink brand already owns RB Leipzig in Germany's Bundesliga, Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg, and MLS side New York Red Bulls.

Leeds have been owned by 49ers Enterprises since last summer, while actors Russell Crowe and Will Ferrell both own stakes in the club.
