MANILA, Philippines — Gabriela Women’s Party questioned why the Marcos administration was rolling out the red carpet for United States President Donald Trump during the upcoming Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit, citing the reported flight cancellations and road disruptions Filipinos would face during his visit.
“Why is the Philippines rolling out the red carpet for US President Donald Trump, a leader whose record is marked by war, racism, and attacks on women, children, and marginalized peoples, while Filipinos bear the costs and disruptions of his visit?” Gabriela Secretary General KJ Catequista said in a statement.
The group cited reports of more than 100 flight cancellations, including 106 flights affected by Cebu Pacific, as well as expected road closures in Pasay City that could disrupt commuters and workers.
Catequista also accused President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. of pursuing the proposed Pax Silica agreement to secure Washington’s backing, saying the administration was prioritizing US interests while ordinary Filipinos bore the inconvenience of the visit.
Trump is scheduled to attend the 49th Asean Summit from Nov. 16 to 18, 2026.
Gabriela also criticized Trump’s foreign policy and his record on human rights, arguing that diplomatic relations should not come at the expense of accountability and the dignity of Filipinos.
“No red carpet for war criminals," Catequista said.
