Red Star Belgrade goalkeeper Omri Glazer felt they proved themselves in their 3-1 defeat to Champions League opponents Manchester City.
Osman Bukari had given Red Star the lead before halftime before Alvarez struck after the break. His double was followed by Rodri netting City's third to settle the game.
Glazer later said: "I am very disappointed after the second goal, I had to defend it better.
"I am happy with my performance, we played against an unbelievable team that creates a lot of chances. We gave more than 100% and maybe we could end it with a better result after we scored a goal.
"We are happy to show that we are ready for opponents like Man City, and we have the quality for the Champions League group stage. We stopped Haaland, but we had to stop the others."
He added: "That was really, really difficult. This is my first Champions League game so to play against the best team in the world it's really difficult. They control the pitch and they created, I think , around 30 shots something like this and I think I made like 15 or 16 saves."
