This is good advice, not only for UMNO members but also for whom Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamid was addressing. It is also good for all of us as rakyat of this multiracial nation, regardless of our status, creed or colour. A good, honest reflection and self-check will always lead us back to the right path as the human heart can be described as selfish, greedy and wicked at its core.
Kids throw tantrums when they do not get what they want. Likewise, teens, adults and even older people show these times of displeasure in various ways when they do not get what they desire. As result, we see all kinds of bullying, slander and even fights. Even at a young age, there is the ability to plot and scheme so that we have our desires fulfilled. We hear of office politics, backstabbing, gossip and slander causing unnecessary pain as we all try to earn a decent living or work to the best of our ability.
We all remember the 'Sheraton Move' which has shaken our nation. We read of attempts of coup and power struggle. All these are hindrances to the stability and progress that we all hope for. They are the clear evidence of selfishness, a lack of morality and a seared conscience.
Therefore, as students, let us reflect and do a self-check. Have we been diligent and honest in our assignments? As employees, have we been good workers, bringing pleasure to our employers? As employers, have we been fair and true in all our dealings? Even those who stay at home also need to self-check: Have we been responsible, trustworthy and dependable? Every one of us needs this timely reminder to self-check. Let us determine to always sow seeds of justice, righteousness and truth so that our nation will be healed and restored.
