A year after launching an aggressive reform agenda at the Bureau of Customs (BOC), Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno has received the Asia’s Outstanding Leader for Customs Modernization and Public Service award, citing his efforts to modernize the agency, improve public service, and strengthen revenue and border enforcement.
The award, presented during the Asia’s Golden Icon Awards, recognized Nepomuceno’s leadership in modernizing customs operations, promoting transparency, and improving public service while strengthening the bureau’s role in facilitating legitimate trade and protecting the country’s borders.
Since assuming office in July 2025, Nepomuceno has led a wide-ranging reform program focused on accelerating customs modernization through digital transformation, streamlining frontline services, tightening border security, strengthening anti-smuggling operations, and reinforcing integrity across the organization.
Under his leadership, the bureau has also sustained strong revenue collections while rolling out reforms designed to improve transparency, accountability, and ease of doing business for stakeholders.
Nepomuceno said the recognition belongs not to him alone but to the thousands of men and women of the bureau whose commitment has fueled the agency’s transformation.
“We thank our partners in the private sector because this tells our personnel that the reforms we have begun—the small but meaningful steps toward building a modern and transformed Bureau of Customs—are already being recognized,” he added. WILLIAM B. DEPASUPIL
