Reform MP deletes video with UK’s ‘worst benefits cheat’ hours after posting

  • Reform MP Sarah Pochin posted a video featuring Ethel McGill, who praised the party for helping her secure an adapted bungalow.
  • The video was deleted hours later after it was revealed that Ms McGill was previously jailed for fraud and dubbed by The Mirror as the “UK's worst benefits cheat”.
  • Ms McGill was sentenced to five years and 10 months in 2019 for hiding her father's death to fraudulently claim £740,000 in benefits and a war pension.
  • Ms Pochin defended her actions, saying she takes constituents at face value and her office does not run background checks, adding that Reform UK opposes benefit fraud.
  • The incident comes as Nigel Farage's party has pledged the largest benefits bill cut in UK history if they win the next general election.
