  • Reform UK’s treasurer, billionaire property tycoon Nick Candy, reportedly visited Nicaragua last week for a gold mining-related trip.
  • During his visit, Mr Candy met several individuals subject to international sanctions, including Laureano Facundo Ortega Murillo, the son of Nicaragua's co-president.
  • He was also greeted with a message from co-president Rosario Murillo, who is sanctioned by the UK for human rights abuses.
  • Mr Candy, who became Reform's treasurer after defecting from the Conservatives in 2024, did not directly meet Ms Murillo or her husband, Daniel Ortega.
  • The Labour Party criticised Reform UK, saying that Nigel Farage and his team consistently fail to act in Britain's national interest, citing this visit as an example.
