Isn't it just delightful to witness the Madani government stumble and bumble its way through their so-called "reform" show?
They've practically turned it into a farce, as if their sole purpose is to prove that talk is nothing but empty words.
Anwar Ibrahim, the supposed champion of reformasi, has been in charge for nearly a year, and what do we have to show for it?
Well, not much, except for a brilliant display of evading accountability. His buddy Zahid gets a free pass out of jail, and Anwar's response is basically, "It's not my fault, blame the retired attorney-general!" Classic move, really.
And those pesky draconian laws?
Oh, they're still here, thanks to the government's talent for justifying the unjustifiable. Bravo!
But don't be fooled by Anwar's charm offensive on the world stage. Back home, he's singing a completely different tune. It's like watching a politician make a 180-degree turn as soon as they taste power.
Suddenly, quotas and religious conversions are on the agenda, while promises of addressing minority concerns are yesterday's news.
Reforms? Oh, they're deader than a doornail, "not alive, truly unequivocally deceased."
The rhetoric will persist, of course, but it's all a smokescreen to prolong their comfy seats in power.
Anwar's main mission now is to cling to his PM status, no matter how dire the situation becomes.
Meanwhile, the opposition is having a blast, with Malays flocking to them faster than you can say, “cleaner political coalition.”
It's almost as if the Madani government is doing the opposition's job for them – quite the favour from Anwar and his colleagues in PH.
So, for those who once hoped for change, the Madani government may not have outright killed reforms, but they've buried them so deep that they might as well be six feet under.
Farewell to the era of promised reforms, folks – it's officially resting in peace.
