PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday said the government continued to implement reforms aimed at enhancing broadband connectivity and making internet services fast and affordable.
In his speech during the Philippine Telecommunications Summit 2026 in Pasay City, Marcos framed connectivity as both an economic necessity and a public service issue.
"Together with the Department of Information and Communications Technology, we are carrying out reforms to make our internet services faster and more affordable," Marcos said.
"At the same time, we continue to expand the scope of connectivity across the country," he added.
Marcos said that part of these reforms was the enactment of the Konektadong Pinoy Act that removed barriers that slowed progress and limited competition.
He said the government has also implemented the Free Public Internet Access Program that maintains over 9,500 active free Wi-Fi access points in 5,057 public places, bringing more opportunities to Filipinos.
To promote inclusion, the president cited the Bayanihan SIM Card Project that provided public school students, teachers, and indigent communities with over 89,400 subsidized SIM cards, each with monthly data allocations.
