Regal Farewell: Majestic Exit as Melaka Royals Conclude Reign with Grand Ceremony

In a poignant and regal display, the morning witnessed the presence of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah at the Parliament Square for a ceremony that marked the conclusion of Their Majesties' reign. The atmosphere was charged with dignity as the royal couple, accompanied by the resounding tunes of ‘nafiri’ (trumpets) performed by 22 members of the Ceremonial Mounted Squadron of the Sungai Buloh Camp, Selangor, made their entrance.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, along with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and his wife Datin Seri Hamidah Khamis, and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof with his wife Datin Seri Ruziah Mohd Tahir, extended a warm welcome to Their Majesties.

Proceeding to the Royal Dais, Al-Sultan Abdullah and Tunku Azizah walked past the lance-bearers to receive the Royal Salute from the main guard-of-honour. The ceremonial grandeur continued with the national anthem played by the Central Band of the Royal Malay Regiment, followed by the lowering of the Royal Standard of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and a 21-gun salute by the 41 Battery of the Royal Artillery Regiment (Ceremonial).

In a precise display, Al-Sultan Abdullah inspected the main guard-of-honour, comprised of 103 members and four officers from the 1st Battalion Royal Malay Regiment, under the command of Major Adibadiuezshah Ahmad. Assoc Prof Datuk Dr Luqman Abdullah, the Mufti of the Federal Territory, recited a prayer, and the main guard-of-honour executed the Royal Salute once more before the national anthem echoed for the second time.

Their Majesties bid farewell to Cabinet members, lawmakers, heads of government departments and agencies, and foreign diplomatic corps, symbolically shaking hands. Post-ceremony, Al-Sultan Abdullah and Tunku Azizah waved appreciatively to the attendees, placing their hands on their left chests as a gesture of gratitude.
