PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim cited today past experiences in Gaza and Lebanon as evidence of the dangers of temporary truces.
“Past experience proves that a ceasefire without solid guarantees will only repeat the cycle of violence, as seen in Gaza and Lebanon.
“Therefore, efforts towards peace must be founded on justice, accountability and sustained commitment,” he said in a Facebook post today.
The Prime Minister emphasised that true peace requires a comprehensive resolution to ensure the security of all parties involved and to restore human dignity in the West Asian region.
These remarks followed a telephone conversation with the President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, which Anwar shared on social media.
He acknowledged Iran’s willingness to enter negotiations, provided that the conflict is brought to a definitive end.
“I have been in contact with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, to obtain the latest updates regarding the increasingly tense West Asian conflict.
“At the same time, I convey my deepest condolences to the people of Iran for the loss of top leadership, including political, military and security figures, as well as the innocent civilians, children, and general public,” he said.
The Prime Minister also condemned the recent Israeli attacks supported by the United States on Iran.
“Malaysia also expresses concern for our friends in the Gulf affected by this conflict. We condemn any actions targeting civilians, as they clearly violate international law, humanitarian principles, and the values of justice,” he added.
Anwar noted that President Masoud expressed gratitude for Malaysia’s principled stance.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening solidarity with Iran and its people.
“Let us collectively pray that the conflict in West Asia can find a peaceful resolution as swiftly as possible,” he said. - March 27, 2026
