Disney Plus Hotstar seems to be doing all it can to spread its Korean drama magic. Following the success of the crime thriller Unmasked, the streaming giant has arrived with a new political revenge thriller — Buried Hearts. Keep scrolling for all the details about the plot, cast and episode release schedule of Buried Hearts.
Starring Park Hyung-sik in the lead role, the story focuses on Seo Dong-ju (played by Park), the executive director of the Daesan Group chairperson Cha Kang-cheon’s (played by Woo Hyun) Public Affairs team. While Dong-ju appears loyal on the outside, his real goal is to seize an opportunity to take over the Daesan Group.
Talking about his character, Park said in a press conference, “Seo Dong-ju has had a difficult journey, different from most children. Because of that, he’s developed a strong mindset that helps him overcome any challenge. At the same time, he’s a warmhearted person who knows how to share genuine love. He always appears confident, but that confidence sometimes leads to failure and betrayal. To me, he feels like a character who truly reflects real life.”

Spoilers ahead!
Previously in the Disney Plus original Korean drama, viewers discover that a controversial energy project has brought the multinational Daesan Group into the spotlight. Accused of mismanagement, embezzlement and corruption, with two trillion won of government funding missing, the company finds itself under investigation by South Korea’s National Assembly. Morally ambiguous Daesan Group executive director Seo Dong-ju bribes and blackmails one of the Assembly members to save the Group and establishes himself as an irreplaceable part of the company. However, his rapid success makes him a target for Yeom Jang-seon, a former director of the National Intelligence Service and the most influential person in the South Korean political world, and Huh Il-do, the son-in-law of Daesan Group chairperson Cha Kang-cheon.
In episode 3, Seo Dong-ju escapes a planned attack by Jang-seon. He then heads to the latter’s home and confesses that he had embezzled “a little over 39 billion won” from Jang-seon’s secret political slush fund. He begs Jang-seon to let him stay alive and promises to return the embezzled amount.
In the process, Dong-ju hacks into the said political slush fund account worth 2 trillion won (approximately USD 1.4 billion) and changes its password, ensuring that no one but he can get hold of the 2 trillion won.
Towards the end of the episode, Dong-ju takes a vacation in a seaside village in Korea. He then calls Eun-nam and informs her that he would wait for her. As promised, she reaches the village. But before Eun-nam can meet Dong-ju, the Chairman’s men track her and take her back. Elsewhere, Dong-ju, unaware of the incident, rents a luxury yacht and prepares to propose to Eun-nam. The episode ends with Il-do approaching Dong-ju in a boat and shooting him.
