A WARDEN at a tahfiz centre in Sungai Kob, Kulim, is expected to be charged in the Magistrate’s Court today for allegedly caning an 11-year-old student in September last year.
The 27-year-old man is likely to be charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
Police had earlier confirmed that the incident, which was widely circulated on social media, involved a male student being caned by a warden at the tahfiz centre.
The alleged assault occurred on 29 September and is believed to have been a disciplinary action for disturbing other students during lessons.
The boy, who resides in Padang Serai, had reportedly been attending the tahfiz centre for about seven months prior to the incident.
The abuse came to light when the child’s parents collected him and noticed bruises on his body. The boy’s father lodged a police report on 3 October last year. - January 26, 2026
