
LAHAD DATU: The Sessions Court here on Tuesday sentenced a 48-year-old religious teacher to a total of 26 years in prison and five strokes of the cane for two charges of raping an 11-year-old girl.
Judge Suhaila Selag handed down the sentences to Basry Asang, 49, who pleaded guilty to both charges.
On the first charge, Basry was accused of raping the girl at a house on 18 August 2024, while the second charge involved a similar offence at the same location on 19 August 2024.
