Companies have been turning to artificial intelligence (AI) to conduct job interviews, replacing human recruiters with automated systems.
While technology like this often comes with promises of cost-effectiveness and efficiency, many job candidates are reporting their frustrating experiences with companies' use of AI on TikTok.
Many videos of these viral AI interviews are going viral on social media. Not only is it disrespectful from the company’s side, but the AI the companies are using keeps malfunctioning, as it keeps repeating the same phrases.
A user named Freddie, who goes by the username petobesessed777, shared his experience on TikTok where the AI interviewer kept repeating a phrase that sounds like gibberish, but many commenters say it sounds like it is trying to say, “Let’s touch base.”
He captioned the video, “Should I email them? I was expecting a real human. They didn’t tell me ahead of time they’d use AI.” Clearly expressing his disappointment.
However, Freddie wasn’t the only one who has had to undergo an AI interview.
TikTok user Leo Humps, username leohumpsalot, posted about how his excitement turned into disappointment when the interview started.
He noticed something odd right from the start when a robotic voice of a woman started talking.
Just like Freddie, Leo Humps expected an actual human to interview him just as the email sent from the company mentioned he will be interviewed by a hiring manager, not an AI.
Similarly to Freddie's situation, the AI started glitching and repeated phrases of “When, let’s, when, let’s…”

Both the AI interviewers also show an AI-generated image of a woman who’s supposed to be the hiring manager.
TikTok users commented on their videos, calling this act ‘disrespectful to the applicants’ and how this is the ‘worst corporate move ever’.
Some users joked that the company's apology should be in the form of a job.
The job market is growing more competitive every single day, while more companies continue to turn towards digital.
Although this is currently only affecting companies overseas, Malaysia may soon join the AI trend to cut costs and save time.
Many fresh graduates and people who are unemployed worry that it will alienate the people that these companies are trying to attract.
