MANILA, Philippines — Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla on Tuesday admitted that the biggest challenge in finding business tycoon-turned-fugitive Atong Ang was tracking his money which enables him to move around.
“He has a lot of money. If you have that much money, it would be easy to come up with ways to hide. He can buy a house in far flung areas (just like what) [Osama] Bin Laden did, houses that have high walls,” Remulla said in a press briefing at Camp Crame. Remulla also reacted to the statement of lawyer Rowena Guanzon that the hunt for Ang was only a bluff since the Philippine National Police (PNP) knew where he was from the beginning because he has long been under surveillance and that the P10 million reward would be divided among policemen.
“It is a very unfair statement,” Remulla said.
The PNP has raided at least three hideouts of Ang in the last two days but but failed to find him. Remulla said they were looking at four more.
There are “no indications” yet as to the possibility of Ang having exited the country, but it is possible, Remulla said. This is why the PNP has coordinated with the International Police Organization to alert foreign law enforcement, Remulla said.
