Rennes coach Bruno Genesio concedes Samuel Umtiti's chances of signing are slim.
Genesio worked with the Barcelona defender Umtiti at Lyon and admits he'd like to work with him again, but admits his injury is a concern for the board.
He said, "We had a talk where he reassured me, but in the end the field will judge his condition.
"For me he is also a world champion and has the experience we are looking for.
"We will have a talk with the club to see if we reach a successful conclusion."
